Home to an exciting and exotic marine world and a beautiful aviary, this park has scary rides and water shows, a dolphinŽarium, and a Chinese cultural village that showcases parts of ancient China. To get a more evocative experience of Hong Kong, a visit to the island of Lantau is a must. The Tai O fishing village is a sleepy, but significant, settlement of Lantau; some parts seem still locked in time. Old-style fishing houses built on stilts that skim over the water like Chinese water colours brimming with a shoal of houseboats are still a regular part of daily life at Tai O. The village is famous for its salt panning and fish processing. A plan to create a Disney Land complex in Asia in the not-so-distant future on Lantau island is a great source of pride for Hong Kong. But the real attraction at Lantau is the Po Lin monastery that nestles 500 metres high in the Western part. This Buddhist temple was originally built in the early 1920s and boasts of the largest. Outdoor Buddha statue in the world that sits 34 metres high.The statue has a serene aura that is worth the steep climb to the summit and the view from the top of this hill is impressive. This monastery prohibits the eating of meat on its grounds and provides visitors with an affordable and wholesome vegetarian meal. There are several beaches in areas like Repulse Bay and Stanley that come to life on weekends only So you get plenty of space to be together almost alone!
